Betty Scofield, age 82
Betty Scofield, age 82 of Flandreau, died Friday, July 15, 2011 at her home under hospice care.
Betty was born on December 12, 1928 at Portland, OR to Alfred and Alice (Zylstra) Hennager. After the death of her father, the family moved back to Flandreau and she was educated in Flandreau Public Schools. Betty was married to Norvald Scofield on March 23, 1948 in Flandreau and they farmed north of Flandreau until moving into Flandreau in 2004. Nort preceded her in death on October 20, 2007. Betty was a member of the United Methodist Church, UMW, Sunshine Club and Moody County Historical Society. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking, and especially baking chocolate chip cookies. Betty enjoyed the Minnesota Twins, cheering on her family in their sports activities and was a caregiver her whole life.
Survivors include six children: Kathy (Jerry) Doyle, Flandreau, Nancy (Chris) Iott, Ward, Alice (Bob) Kurtz, Elkton, Roger Scofield, Judy (Randy) Wilts, Norvie (Kamie) Scofield, all of Flandreau; two daughters-in- law: Renae Scofield, Brookings and Cindy Scofield, Wessington; 26 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren; one sister: JoAnn Martens, Pipestone; one brother-in-law: Lee Kjelland, Henderson, NV; and two sisters-in-law, Thelma Hennager, Rapid City and Ethel Wiese, Flandreau.
She was preceded in death by her husband Nort, son Steven, parents, three brothers, Russ, Francis and Duane "Doc"; and a sister Joyce.
Funeral service was held July 18, 2011 at the United Methodist Church with burial in Union Cemetery.
