Louie Schmidt was born April 29, 1901 on a farm near Clinton, IA to Henry and Emma Petersen Schmidt. As a very small child the family came to Moody County, South Dakota and settled on a farm east of Flandreau in Union Township. He received his education in rural Moody county school then started farming with his father and brother. On February 14, 1923 Louie married Anna Jensen at Flandreau. They farmed in Lone Rock Township until they retired in the fall of 1974 and moved into Flandreau to make their home. Louie continued to make his home in Flandreau until the spring of 1991 when he became a resident of Good Samaritan Village in Pipestone, MN. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church.
He is survived by one son, Harold, Pensacola, FL; one daughter, Elsie, Mrs. Willie Oltmans, Lake Benton, MN; one brother, Chris Schmidt, Centralia, IL; one sister, Minnie Hammer, Clinton, IA. He is preceded in death by his wife, Anna (August 11, 1980), one daughter, Dorothy, parents, 8 brothers and one sister.
