(October 12, 1908 - May 21, 2009)

Mabel Hammer, age 100 of Baltic, entered into eternal rest with her Lord on Thursday, May 21, 2009.

Funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at East Nidaros Lutheran Church, Baltic. Burial will be in the East Nidaros Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 5-7:00 PM Tuesday at the church.

Mabel Elizabeth (Hoyme) Hammer was born October 12, 1908 in Moody County to Helge and Louisa (Oihus) Hoyme. She was baptized and confirmed in the Bethania Lutheran Church. She attended a rural school and then went to Jasper High School where she graduated in 1926. She then attended Madison Normal School and taught in Moody County. In 1930 she married Oscar Hammer of Baltic. They farmed on the Hammer Homestead until 1973 when they retired and moved into Baltic. Oscar died February 1, 1981.

She was a member of the East Nidaros Lutheran Church, Esther's Circle, Baltic American Legion Auxiliary, and the Baltic Senior Citizens. She was a volunteer at the Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls for many years, and also volunteered at the Baltic Senior Citizens.

She is survived by one daughter Louise Anne and husband William Hall of Moose Lake, Minnesota; three sons, James and wife Peg of Des Moines, Iowa; Gerald and wife Jean of Baltic; Donald and wife Gaila of Irving, Texas; a daughter in law, Julie Hammer of Lakewood, Colorado. Mabel is also survived by sixteen grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews, loved ones and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, two sons, Roger and Merlin and a granddaughter.

Mabel was hard working, loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved music, traveling with Oscar to visit family members, and you could always count on a special angel food cake for birthdays. Mabel had deep faith in God, and read her Bible from beginning to end several times.

A special thanks you to her caring friends at Good Samaritan Center in Sioux Falls. The memory of Mable will forever live-on within our hearts.
