Merlin Hammer, of Lakewood, Colorado, was born to parents Oscar and Mabel (Hoyme) Hammer on May 12, 1934 in Dell Rapids, South Dakota. He grew up on the family farm near Baltic and attended country school near there. He graduated from Baltic High School and then entered the United States Army and served during the Korean Conflict. After his discharge he attended South Dakota State College, where he graduated.

Merlin married Julaine Myran December 13, 1958 at Baltic Lutheran Church. They lived in Brookings, Baltic and later moved to Colorado in 1974. He worked for Green Construction until the mid 1980's, when he started as a real estate agent.

Merlin died Tuesday, February 14, 2006 in Lakewood, Colorado. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Julie Hammer, Lakewood, Colorado; his children and their spouses, Jean and Kim Gendill, Jeff and Kathy Hammer, Jay and Mandy Hammer, all of Lakewood, Colorado; seven grandchildren, Brianna, Brittany, Brycen, Justin, Emily, Lauren, and Gregory; his mother, Mabel Hammer, Sioux Falls; a sister, Louise Hall and her husband Bill, Moose Lake, Minnesota; three brothers and their spouses, Gerald and Jean Hammer, Baltic; Donald and Gaila Hammer, Irving, Texas; James and Peg Hammer, Des Moines, Iowa; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Oscar Hammer on February 2, 1981.

Visitation 2:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday, Horan & McConaty, 3101 S. Wadsworth; Lakewood, Colorado, service 10:30 AM Friday, February 18, 2006 at Lutheran Church of the Master. Memorial Donations can be made to Lutheran Church of the Master.
