Henry was born to Hinrich and Dirtje (Janssen) Andreessen. Henry married Hilkea Valentien on May 13, 1886 in Lennox, SD. 11 children were born to this union; Henry, Martha, Dora, Martin, Cornelius, Etta, Anna, Matthew, Clara, Hilko and Effie. Henry attained the age of 81 years, 1 month and 9 days. The following is from the Lennox Diamond Jubilee Book. Henry Andreesen, Sr., was born in Hatshausen, Ostfriesland, Germany, August 5, 1856 and when 17 years old served as a seaman. In 1877 he passed examinations permitting him to serve one year as a volunteer in the German navy He served as a mate on German ships until the spring of 1882. In that year he traveled to America, settling in Holland, Grundy county IA., and in the fall filed on a homestead five miles north of Lennox. He moved to the homestead in 1883 where he resided until his retirement. Mrs. Andreesen—nee Valentine —was born July 17, 1866 at Grimmersum, Ostfriesland, Germany. In the spring of 1884 her parents came to the United States and located on a farm near Aplington, IA. In 1886 they located on a farm 6 miles northwest of Lennox. The couple was married May 13, 1886, and the family continued to make their home on the same farm until 1927 when they retired and moved to Tea. They were affiliated with the Tea Trinity Lutheran church a number of years, and Mr. Andreesen served as secretary of that church 25 years. Eleven children were born to this union, two having passed away. Mat died in 1918 and Hilko passed away in 1931. Other children included: Henry, Jr., Martin, Mrs. Dora Schoffelman, Mrs. Martha Hagemeyer, Cornelius, Mrs. Anna Poppens, Mrs. Clara Vietor, Etta, and Effie Andreesen. Mr. Andreessen passed away Sept. 14, 1937.
