The many Dell Rapids friends of William V. McFarland were grieved the first of this week to learn that he had passed away Sunday morning at a Sioux Falls Hospital.

Mr. McFarland was for many years a resident of Dell Rapids. He was postal clerk and assistant postmaster here over a period of years and later conducted a recreation parlor. About eight years ago the family moved to Canton where he was since operated a bowling alley.

The son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm., McFarland, he spent his boyhood days in Dell Rapids. He homesteaded in Butte County, S.D., and later was in the lumber business in the Black Hills. Following his marriage to Miss Mable Sommers, Mr. and Mrs. McFarland moved to Dell Rapids where he had taken the position as assistant postmaster to his father.

He is survived by his widow, and a son William McFarland of Sioux Falls, three brothers, including Albert and Harry McFarland of Sioux Falls, and two sisters, Miss Blanche McFarland and Mrs. R.G. Rhodes also of Sioux Falls. He was a member of the Methodist Church and Rotary club at Canton.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at the Anderson Funeral home at Canton at 2 p.m. Burial was in the Dell Rapids cemetery where a graveside series was conducted at 4 o'clock.
