Nels 1885 - 1975
Helen 1891 - 1988
Nels (1885-1975) was born in Highland Township, LinĀ¬coln County. He was the son of Marius and Thea (Torstensen) Nelson. When he was eight years old, he moved with his parents to a farm two miles north and four miles west of Romsdal Church. This was prairie ground so they had to toil long hours to build up this land. He helped on the home farm and also helped neighboring farmers. In 1913, Nels and Helen Narum were married. Helen was the daughter of Hans and Elsia Narum. She was born in 1891 in Norway Township. They moved to a farm seven miles north of Beresford which they later purchased. They had one daughter, Thelma, who married Raymond Larson and they lived in Van Nuys, Calif. The Nelsons were active members of Romsdal Church. The Nelsons retired from the farm and moved to Canton. The farm was sold to William Hazel. They lived in Canton until Nels' death in 1975. Helen then went to California to live with her daughter and husband. Later she moved back to South Dakota and now resides at the Bethesda Home for the Aged at Beresford, enjoying good health at the age of 92 years.
