Lars Kylling (1840-1912) was born in Romsdal, Norway, and he married Marit E rlandsdatter Alness (1843-1911) of Sogndal, Norway, Soon after their marriage in 1869, they left for America, They settled in Ossian, Winneshiek Coun¬ty, Iowa. In the spring of 1871 they started for the Dakotas together with friends in two wagon trains. They homesteaded 160 acres in the northeast quarter of Section 6 in Norway Township. In the summer of 1872 Lars and Marit donated two acres of ground and 50 dollars toward starting a Lutheran church, and with it expressed the desire that the church be named Romsdal after the place they came from in Norway.
Lars and Marit had eight children, two girls died in in¬fancy; Edwin (1871-1888), Ludvig (1873-1951), Ador (1875-1931), Louise (1879-1901), Emma Linde (1881-1977), and Lydia (1883-1961). (Source: The History of Lincoln County, SD 1985, page 524-525)
