Hilder and Lydia Johnson lived on a farm five miles north¬east of Beresford in Pleasant Township. She was the young¬est daughter of Johannes and Brita Yttreness. The Johnsons had four children: Gladys, Kenneth, Leonard, and Milford. Gladys, a registered nurse, worked in St. Paul, Minn. She spent two years in the U.S. Navy during World War II. She retired to live on the farm near Beresford. Kenneth, who married Evelyn Nelson, lived on a farm north of Beresford. They had a son, Kendall, who lives in Apple Valley, Minn. Kenneth died in an accident in 1949. Leonard married Margie Kroger. They built a home on the farm and there were then two houses there. They had one son, Loren, who lives on a farm southwest of Beresford. He married Wilma Wastell and they had two children, Stephen and Sherri. Margie died in 1977. The youngest son, Milfred, was inducted into the army after high school and served in Austria until discharged. He attended college one year, became ill and died at age 23 in 1949. The children attended North Star School and the family belonged to the Romsdal Church. Leonard married Alma Larson of Sioux Falls in 1982. They are residing in Sioux Falls. The first wedding in the Romsdal Church after it had been rebuilt after the windstorm in 1902 was the two Yttreness sisters, Ella and Lydia. They were wed to Emil Albertson and Hilder Johnson on May 6, 1903. Hilder died in 1963 and Lydia in 1973. They are buried in the Romsdal Cemetery as are their sons Kenneth and Milfred Johnson.
