Funeral services for John Ivarsen will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at Romsdal Lutheran Church, rural Beresford. Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford with a prayer service at 6:00 p.m. and the family present from 6:00-8:00 p.m. John A. Ivarsen was born May 31, 1941 in Lincoln County, South Dakota to Magnus and Alice (Thompson) Ivarsen. He died March 9, 2008 in Beresford at the age of 66 years, nine months and eight days. John was raised on a farm in Lincoln County, SD and was baptized and confirmed at Romsdal Lutheran Church. He served the US Army and following his honorable discharge he returned to South Dakota. John married Sharon Hoffman September 23, 1961. He attended Hawarden Community College for two years. John was a farmer all his life, which is what he loved to do. He was a life member of Romsdal Lutheran Church where John served in a number of capacities. He was currently on the cemetery board. John was very proud of his six grandsons; he enjoyed attending their various activities. John waited for 17 years, but he was recently given a very special gift, his first granddaughter, Kaylee. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Sharon; sons, Grant (special friend, Sandra Hybertson), Brian (Heather) and Steve (Shannon) all of Beresford; daughter, Laurie Ivarsen of Sioux Falls; seven grandchildren, Maverick, Nathan, Adam, McCade, MacLane, MaKoy and Kaylee Ivarsen; sisters, Lila (Lauren) Rhude of Oro Valley, AZ and Irene Rezac of Sioux Falls, SD; brother, Glenn (Sue) Ivarsen of Sioux City, IA. His parents, Magnus and Alice; in-laws, Heinie and Frances Hoffman; infant son, Steven John; brothers, Marvin Ivarsen and Roger Dullerud and sister-in-law, Maxine Eitemiller preceded him in death.
