Dorothy Lenth passed away from cancer on Monday, Nov. 7, 2005, at the Sioux Valley Hospice in Sioux Falls.
Dorothy Overvaag, the daughter of Lewis and Alma Overvaag, was born on July 8, 1921, on her family's farm near Dell Rapids. She attended Hanson Country School and graduated from Dell Rapids High School in 1939. She attended South Dakota State College for one year majoring in nursing. She married Werner Lenth on March 4, 1941, in Dell Rapids. They farmed northwest of Dell Rapids until 1974 when they retired into Dell Rapids. Her husband died on Oct. 1, 1997.
Dorothy was a member of the Lutheran Church of Dell Rapids and the Dell Rapids Senior Citizen's Center.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Sharon (Dan) Carlson of Lake Madison; her two sons, Richard (Rene) and David (Lois), both of Dell Rapids; her eight grandchildren: Brett (Christina) Carlson of Scottsdale, Ariz.; Michelle (Todd) Parks of Orlando, Fa.; Shayla (Mike) Schoenoff of Anthem, Ariz.; Chad Lenth of Fort Carson, Colo.; and Aaron, Arika, David Jr. and Kimberly Lenth of Dell Rapids; and her four great-grandchildren: Lexi and Mikayla Parks and Matthew and David Carlson.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Betty in 1972; her parents; a sister, Genevieve Overvaag; and three brothers, Lorain, Curtis and Milton Overvaag.
Funeral services were held at the Chapel of the Lutheran Church of Dell Rapids on Thursday, Nov. 10, 2005, with Pastor Mark Docken officiating.
Casketbearers were Brett Carlson, Aaron Lenth, Arika Lenth, Chad Lenth, David Lenth Jr., Kimberly Lenth, Michelle Parks, Shayla Schoenoff and Mike Schoenoff.
Honorary casketbearers were Shirley Adams, Esther Ausman, Linda Belfrage, Regina Evans, Lucille Nelson, Valerie Pond and Ruth Wilke.
