Eugene Frank VanDiepen
July 3, 1946 - May 21, 2022
Eugene VanDiepen, 75, of Sioux Falls, SD, passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2022, at Sanford Medical Center.
Visitation with the family present will be from 5 to 7 pm on Thursday, May 26, 2022, at the Salvation Army, 900 North Cliff Avenue. A service will be held at the Salvation Army at 10:30 am on Friday, May 27, 2022, with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery.
Eugene “Gene” Frank VanDiepen, son of Frank and Ada (Black) VanDiepen, was born on July 3, 1946, in Sioux Falls, SD. He grew up in Riverside and raised his children there as well.
He was employed at Park Ridge Shoe Repair for many years and volunteered at the Salvation Army for Toys for Tots, the Angel Tree, Bell Ringers, and helping the less fortunate. He was a very loving, caring, and giving person, making sure his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were put first in his life. He also had an extraordinary love for cars.
Eugene was united in marriage with Donna Waltz on October 20, 1969, and to this marriage three children were born. Special needs son Frank, daughters Gena Bakken and her husband Barry, Brandon, SD, Shari Schnose and her husband John, Sioux Falls, SD; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; siblings Lucille, Shirley and her husband Don, Phyllis; several nieces and nephews that he loved dearly; his special neighbors, Jamie, Janae and kids and Evie and Al; and many other relatives and friends.
Gene was preceded in death by his wife Donna, parents Frank and Ada, sister Rosie Holbrook, granddaughter Serenity, great-granddaughter Trinity, three brothers-in-law, and nephew Howard Foster.
Up until the moment he passed, Eugene told everyone he knew how much he loved them. He was loved and remembered by anyone and everyone who met him.
