Frank Lander Dies From Gun Wounds
Frank Lander, a resident of this community for many years, was found dead Tuesday morning, in the yard at his home 10 miles northwest of Dell Rapids. Notes left by Mr. Lander giving instructions in detail as to funeral arrangements, disposal of his property and other plans, bears out the belief that death came as a result of a self inflicted gunshot wound. The full load entered his left breast. He was found by a neighbor passing the place about 10:30 a.m and it is believed he had been dead for probably a couple of hours.
Frank Lander was born Nov. 18, 1873, in the State of Michigan. He came to Dell Rapids with his mother when a small boy and grew to manhood in this locality. On March 29, 1893, he was married to Julia Bowen. After spending a year or so in California the couple moved back to Dell Rapids, purchasing the farm where he had lived some 35 years. His wife passed away March 29th, 1937, and since that time Mr. Lander has lived alone on the farm. Since the death of Mrs. Lander whom he had cared for so kindly during the last few years of her life, he has been despondent almost constantly and the grief undoubtedly became more than he could withstand.
The deceased is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Tena Bowen of San Diego and Mrs. Wm. Bryant of Van Nuys, Calif.
Funeral services will be held at the Hermanson funeral chapel on Friday afternoon, June 3rd, at 2:00 o'clock conducted by Rev. J. H. Dirks of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Interment will in the Dell Rapids Cemetery.
