Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Sat., Jan. 28, for Edith "Verene" Stratton, 80,
Lincoln, Neb., former Madison resident, who died on Jan. 25, 2006, at Lancaster
Manor in Lincoln. The Rev. Bruce Iverson will officiate in Trinity Lutheran Church
at Madison, and burial will be in Dell Rapids Cemetery at Dell Rapids.
Prayer services will begin at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Weiland Funeral Chapel.
Edith Rosen was born on July 22, 1925, near Montrose to Gustav and Gerda (Gustafson)
Rosen. She attended country school near Montrose before moving to Madison at age 14.
She married Melvin Stratton on Feb. 23, 1948, near Salem. they farmed near Lake
Madison until 1974, when they moved into Madison. She worked in the dietary
department at Madison Community Hospital until retiring in 1987.
Survivors include her husband, Melvin of Madison; three daughters, Carol (Jerry)
Gaspar of Colton, Charlotte (Lynn) Brown of Sioux Falls, and Linette (Larry) Van
Hunnick of Lincoln, Neb.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and two sisters.
