Butler J. Winjum, who was one of Dell Rapids senior citizens, died on Saturday afternoon, March 28, in the Dell Rapids Hospital. He observed his 95th birthday only recently on March 9.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 1, in the Dell Rapids Lutheran Church with the Rev. E.L. Bersagel officiating. Interment was in the Dell Rapids Cemetery and pallbearers were Oscar Brende, William Munk, Elic Elverson, T. M. Michalson, Felix Lyng and Lester Berge.

Butler J. Winjum was born on March 9, 1864 in Houstan County, Black Hammer, Minn. His parents Jens and Anna Winjum were pioneer settlers in that county.

He attended business school in Rushford, Minn., and when a young man came to South Dakota in 1880. He worked for Dieson's in their general store in those early years.

He was married to Inger Hermanson on Sept. 26, 1894 and to this union was born a son Elmer. He died in 1919 after an illness of the flu and complications.

After working in Dieson's for several years, Mr. Winjum entered the clothing business with I.T. Hermanson and Mr. Ness. Later they sold out and moved to Lemmon where they spent five years in business. Mr. and Mrs. Winjum and their son returned to Dell Rapids and he again worked for Dieson's until he went in the grocery business with Ben Torgeson. After Mr. Torgeson's death, Mr. Winjum was in the retail grocery business with Peder T. Pederson until his retirement in January 1950.

Mrs. Winjum died on Oct. 4, 1957, a few days after their 63rd wedding anniversary. Mr. Winjum is survived by his only sister Mrs. H.J. Hermanson and number of nieces and nephews and many friends.
