Philip S. Sagmoe was born on Jan 27, 1910, near Renner, the son of Bernt and Dorthea Sagmoe. He grew up in the Crooks area and attended the Trobak Country School. Phil worked in the Crooks area until 1934 when he went to Hill City to work in the Civilian Conservation Corps. He returned in 1935 and married Anna Sward on Sept. 12, 1937, in Dell Rapids. They made their home in Dell Rapids. Phil worked at the L.G. Everist quarries in Dell Rapids, drove truck for Hagg Produce, painted homes for many years, and worked at Dybvig farms for eight years. He retired in 1972. Mrs. Sagmoe died in February of 1989. Phil became a resident of Terrace Manor Nursing Home in 1990. Philip Sagmoe died on Monday, May 12 1997, at the Terrace Manor Nursing Home in Dell Rapids. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. Grateful for having shared his life are his three sons, John and his wife, Verna of Dixon, Illinois, Blaine "Bud" and his wife, Judy, Yankton, and Don and his wife, Marsha, Dell Rapids; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren: Four sisters: Mrs. Ovidia Brende of Dell Rapids, Marie Chadwick of Sioux Falls and Mrs. Ethel Dybvig of Baltic. Funeral service was held on Wednesday, May 14, 1997, at the Lutheran Church of Dell Rapids. Interment will be in the Dell Rapids Cemetery. Visitation began on May 13, at Kahler Funeral Home in Dell Rapids.
