Mary was born on Nov. 23, 1904 at Alvord, IA to Onne and Gertrude Waagmeister Zylstra. As a young girl, they moved to the Dell Rapids area where she received her education in a country school. She was married to Alner Nesby on Nov. 24, 1922 at Sioux Falls, SD. They lived in Dell Rapids and Clarinda, IA. Her husband preceded her in death on Aug. 27, 1934. Mary moved to Flandreau later that year and was married to Adolph Rude on June 26, 1939 at Flandreau. He died on July 13, 1966 and Mary continued to live in Flandreau until she entered the White Bear Lake Care Center in June of 1995. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, W.E.L.C.A., 50 year member of Eastern Star, and was an election judge for many years.
May is survived by her dauther, Betty, Mrs. William Thompson, North St. Paul, MN; 2 granddaughters: Andrea and Jacquelyn; 6 great grandchildren: Monica, Marsha, Richard, Ryan, Derrick, and Robert; 1 great-great-grandson, Andreas, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Alner and Adolph, and infant daughter, 4 sisters, and 2 brothers.
