Dell Rapids, S.D. - Mrs. Carrie Norgaard, Dell Rapids' oldest pioneer, observed her 96th birthday this week and in honor of the occasion friends and members of the family dropped in for congratulations. Mrs. Norgaard was the second white woman in the community, coming her in 1872 after her marriage to Nels Norgaard, who had taken up a homestead in the Sioux Valley near here. One of her birthday gifts was a cake with 96 candles.
