Glen died on Friday, Oct. 20, 2006, at the hospital in Dell Rapids surrounded by his family.
Glen M. Fields was born on July 13, 1924, near Jasper Minn., the son of Ord and Anna (DeBates) Fields. Glen attended school near Jasper, Minn., and in Egan. He farmed until 1948 when he joined the Army. Glen served in the military until 1951, when he was honorably discharged. He was a Korean War veteran. He received a Korean War Service Medal for his military service and was a member of the Dell Rapids American Legion Post.
He was married to Joann Pederson in Flandreau on Feb. 16, 1950. After his military service, he worked for L.G. Everist at the quarry in Dell Rapids for 36 years, retiring in 1989. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the Catholic Order of Foresters. Throughout life, Glen enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He also enjoyed hunting, camping and fishing. After retirement, Glen enjoyed golfing with his brother, Dale and his friends.
Glen is survived by his wife Joann; children: Gary (Janine) Fields of Watertown; Bob Fields of Grand Junction, Colo.; Julie (Dave) Bortnem of Denver Colo.; Brad (Lynne) Fields, Mark (Leanne) Fields and Kevin (Jane) Fields, all of Minneapolis, Minn.; his eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; his brothers, Dale and Lloyd; his sister, Vera; and many other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers, Virgil and Lyle.
Christian Wake Service was held at the Kahler Funeral Home Chapel on Oct. 22. Mass of Christian Burial was at Dell Rapids St. Mary Catholic Church on Monday, Oct. 23, with Father Randy Phillips as celebrant.
Honorary casketbearers were Craig Bortnem, Tonia Dalton, Melissa Robinson, Travis Bortnem, Josh Fields, Michael Fields, Daniel Fields amd Maggie Fields.
Inurnment was at St. Mary Cemetery, Dell Rapids, with funeral arrangements by Kahler Funeral Home.
