Dale R. Fields
(February 11, 1926 - January 6, 2012)
Dale Fields, 85, of Dell Rapids passed away on Friday, January 6, 2012 at Brownsville, TX. His Memorial Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 16, 2012 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Dell Rapids. Visitation with the family present will begin at 4:00 p.m. with a Christian Wake Service beginning at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 15, 2012 at Kahler Funeral Home, Dell Rapids.
Dale was born on February 11, 1926 to Ord and Anna Fields in Jasper, MN. He grew up on the family farm in Egan, SD and graduated from Egan High School. Dale served in the US Navy during W.W.II in the South Pacific on the USS Santee from 1944 -1946.
Dale married Mary Ellen Becker on May 14, 1947 at Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church in Flandreau, SD. They moved to Dell Rapids, SD. Dale was employed for L. G. Everist for 42 years. He retired in 1992 after which he enjoyed his winters in Brownsville, TX with Mary Ellen. Dale and Mary Ellen would have enjoyed 65 years of marriage in May.
Dale was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the Dell Rapids American Legion Post and the Dell Rapids Golf Course.
Dale is preceded in death by his parents, Anna (DeBates) and Ord Fields, his brothers, Virgil, Lyle and Glen and his grandson, Dale "Buddy" Fields.
Dale is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen of Dell Rapids; his children, Richard(Melinda) of Fortine, MT, Kathy (George) of Littleton, CO, Douglas (Linda) of Sioux Falls, Thomas (Kathy) of Grand Junction, CO, Dennis (Marcella) of Golden, CO, Colleen (Kevin) of Minneapolis, MN, and Lisa (John) of Austin, TX; his 12 grandchildren, Rich, Jennifer Bernie (Kim), Brenda (Sam), Craig (Amanda), Rebecca (Nathan), Grant (Anitrina) Tyler, Carter, Mariah, Noah and Elise, and 6 great grandchildren; his brother, Lloyd of Flandreau, SD; his sister, Vera Gebhart of Flandreau, SD; his sisters-in-law, JoAnn Fields of Dell Rapids, SD and Gertrude Judge of St. Paul, MN; his brother-in-law, Bill Becker of Red Wing, MN and many nieces and nephews.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers that memorials be directed to the St. Mary Building Fund, the Ronald McDonald House or the Dell Rapids Library.
