Lillian A. Thompson

Lillian A. Thompson, 77, of Dell Rapids died Saturday, April 6, 1991, at the Dell Rapids Community Hospital.

Lillian Nielsen was born on April 12, 1913 in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of Alfred and Marion Nielsen. She moved to Ojibwa, Wisconsin with her parents as a child.

Lil graduated from high school in Chicago. She then returned to Wisconsin and was a licensed guide for hunting and fishing at Nielsen's Chippewa Lodge in Ojibwa. Lil served in the United States Army during World War II as an ambulance driver in the south Pacific.

After her discharge, she was a sales representative for a women's clothing manufacturer in North and South Dakota. Lil married Joe Thompson on Nov. 12, 1948 in Ojibwa, Wisc.

The couple returned to Dell Rapids where they owned and operated the Dells Grocery for a short time. Lil then became the bookkeeper for the Dell Rapids Coop Grain Elevator. She retired in 1978.

She was a member of the Lutheran Church of Dell Rapids, the Odd Fellows Rebekahs and the American Legion.

Lil is survived by her husband; one daughter, Mrs. Michael (Marci) Flicek of Casper, Wyo.; one brother Harold Nielsen of St. Louis, Mo.; and two grandchildren, Matthew and Meghan.

The funeral service for Lil was held on Tuesday, April 9, 1991, att he Lutheran Chruch of Dell Rapids with Pastor Earl Johnson officiating.

Ron Peterson was the soloist and Solveig Hendrickson played the organ. Interment was in the Pioneer Cemetery, rural Baltic. Jim Flicek, Tom Flicek, Marvin Fiegen, Tom Kukuk, Gil Peichel, and Ray Geraets served as the casketbearers.

Visitation and a Rebekah Service were held on Monday at the Kahler Funeral Home, Dell Rapids.
