Mr. and Mrs. Thompson went two miles farther north and homesteaded on the west side of the river (Southwest of the present farm home of Verne Endahl, great grandson of John Thompson. This homestead has been owned the longest in the county by the same family - 127 years).

It was in the sod house cut into the west bank of the Bix Sioux River where Kirsti Thompson gave birth to daughter Berthine on May 26, 1867. Berthine B. Thompson (Mrs. Thomas Fersdahl) this became the first white child born in Minnehaha Co.

This sod house was also to become the birthplace of the Nidaros Congreagation, the first church organized in Minnehaha Co.
