Car-Truck Collision Take Lives of Four Women Monday Afternoon

Mrs. Martin Daugaard and daughter Stella, Mrs. Anna Grav, Daughter Alice Met Tragic Death on Highway Near Vermillion; Funeral Services Friday afternoon at Sioux Falls, Burial in Dell Rapids.

Mrs. Martin Daugaard and daughter, Stella, and the former's sister-in-law, Mrs. Anna Grav, and her daughter, Alice, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, are dead, the result of a traffic tragedy which occurred Monday afternoon, at the junction of highways 50 and 77, eight miles east of Vermillion.

The women driving a 1948 Plymouth car, were traveling on highway 77 when a semi-trailer truck driven by Don Audiss of Winner, S.D., traveling north, proceeding to turn west plowed into the passenger car. Three of the women were killed instantly, and Miss Stella Daugaard died enroute to a Sioux City hospital. They were enroute to California where they expected to spend a few weeks vacation with friends and relatives.

An inquest was held Monday night, when the jury decided that death was caused by felonious act of Dan Audiss. He is being held n the Union county jail at the present time. Sheriff Ed Ekren said he might be formally charged with manslaughter.

Mrs. Daugaard is the widow of the last Martin Daugaard. The family has lived on a farm southeast of Dell Rapids for many years. Her daughter, Stella, has been a teacher in Bancroft school at Sioux Falls for a number of years. She is survived by two sons, Raymond, on the farm, and Howard of Sioux Falls. Also a daughter, Mrs. Tracy Sherer, of Oaks, N.D., and a brother, Peter Grav, of Dell Rapids. Her husband passed away about a year ago.

Mrs. Grav, a sister-in-law of Peter Grav, formerly lived in Sioux Falls. The family moved to Milwaukee about 10 years ago. She is survived by a son, Merle of Sioux Falls, a daughter, Mrs. Bernard Robinson, of Milwaukee, and a sister, Mrs. Ray Jensen of Inwood, Iowa.

Funeral service will be conducted for the four at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon at the Miller Funeral Home in Sioux Falls, conducted by the Rev. August Hinz, pastor of First Baptist church at Sioux Falls. Burial will be in the Dell Rapids cemetery.

Prominent Logan Township Farmer Summoned by Death
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 24th for Martin Daugaard, who passed away at a Sioux Falls Hospital, on Saturday, May 21, following an illness of four months duration.
Mr. Daugaard was one of Logan Township's highly respected citizens. He was born September 11, 1884, in Kalding, Denmark, coming to America at the age of 19, in 1903. He located in Ida County, Iowa. He was united in marriage in Margaret Grav March 6, 1907, and they have since made their home.
Surviving are his widow and four children; Raymond at home, Freda (Mrs. Tracy Sherer) of Oakes, N.D., Howard and Stella of Sioux Falls. Two sisters and three brothers reside in this country and three sisters survive in Denmark.
Burial was in the Dell Rapids cemetery. Six nephews acted a pallbearers: Chris Daugaard, Einar Daugaard, Roy Grav, Harry Grav, Merle Grav.
