Mary Catherine (Byrne) King was born August 13, 1932 in Kansas City, MO to Robert and Sabina (Judge) Byrne. After graduating from Lillis High School, she attended a secretarial college.
In 1955, Mary was united in marriage to James King in Kansas City, MO. She became a loving mother to their six children, cherishing her time raising a family. After her children had grown, she entered into the workforce once again at JCPenney where she served in the men’s department before retiring. For 15 years she volunteered at Valley Baptist Medical Center and also assisted in the reading program helping young children. With a heart full of love, Mary lived a life that was filled with teaching, nurturing, and motherhood.
Following Jim’s retirement, the couple enjoyed traveling and were fortunate enough to tour most of the National Parks while spending time at various family reunions. Some of their travel took them to Alaska, Hawaii and Ireland. She delighted in spending time with family and friends, bowling, and watching sports with family. Mary was a charter member of St. Michael Parish in Sioux Falls and a member of Catholic Daughters for 25 years.
Blessed with a loving and caring spirit, Mary always put the needs of others before her own.
Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Karen (Allan) Jensen, San Antonio, TX; Kathy (Dave) Wolfgang, Sioux Falls, SD; Jim (Rick) King, Lincoln, NE; Michelle (Jerry) Foy, Sioux Falls; David (AnneMarie) King, Sioux Falls; and Colleen (Tommy) Kimbriel, Harlingen, TX. She also loved and cherished the gift of 17 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers Robert, Earl and John Byrne, and her granddaughter Jessica Anderson.
