Karen Faye Murphy
February 13, 1941 – June 12, 2024

Karen Faye Murphy (Udseth) passed away at Dougherty Hospice House on June 12, 2024. Karen was born on February 13, 1942, in Oakland, CA to Fred and Ruby Udseth. They moved to South Dakota where she lived in several small towns settling in Sioux Falls.

There she met her husband, Gene. They were married 63 years and raised four children: Jeff (Tracee), Jil Fisher (Aaron) Sally, and Steve (Sheryl). She had ten grandchildren: Justin, Thaddeus (Kim), Madelyn, Kade (Vanessa), Ruby, Megan, Ashley, Elizabeth, Dillon, and Kiley; and two great-grandchildren: Reece and Donovan.

During her life she was an at home Mom, had a daycare business and worked in retail sales. She had a love of fashion and decorating and loved the color aqua. She loved her country and volunteered with SOCM (Support our Country’s Military) during Desert Storm. She also loved animals. She and the kids learned to ride horses and eventually owned several horses and participated in local horse shows. She loved her family and spent as much time as she could with her grandchildren and great- grandchildren. She and Gene had a cabin at Lake Poinsett, SD for over 26 years and they spent many happy days enjoying the lake with family and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday July 17, 10:00 AM the Cathedral of St. Joseph. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Sioux Falls Humane Society or the MS Society. barnett-lewis.com
