Bob Sample
April 30, 1931 - November 11, 2021
Bob Sample, age 90, of Sioux Falls, passed away at the Dougherty Hospice House on Thursday, November 11, 2021. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory, with public visitation one-hour prior on Wednesday from 1:00 - 2:00 PM also at the funeral home.
Robert “Bob” Samuel Sample was born on April 30, 1931 to Samuel and Gladys (Miller) Sample in Saint Paul, MN. He was raised in St. Paul, attending Murray High School, graduating with the Class of 1949, and then went on to attend night school at the University of Minnesota. Bob enlisted in the United States Army in 1953 and was honorably discharged at Ft. Lewis, Washington in 1955.
For 32 years, Bob worked for Delux Check Printers in St. Paul, transferring to Sioux Falls in 1967. In 1983, he started in real estate, working with Don Dunham, then at Hegg, and also McDowell-Rogers.
Bob was an avid golfer. He and Carol were long-time members of Westward Ho Country Club. During those years, he participated in many tournaments around the state. He was even a member of the Hole-In-One club.
Later, he became a member of Willow Run where he continued his sporting life until the age of 80. For many years there, he was part of a regular group of retired men who met up at the course gate before the sun was up. They were the first off the tee from Monday to Friday.
Bob was an active member of the Lutheran church. He taught Sunday School when his children were young. He was confirmed when he was around 30 years old. Bob faithfully attended Our Savior’s Lutheran Church for several decades until he and Carol moved to the eastside of Sioux Falls. Afterwards, they attended First Lutheran where Bob served as an usher for a few years.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Carol; children, Kay Rose, Jayne (Doug) Timm, Laura Sample, all of Sioux Falls, and Andy (Stacy) Sample of Brandon, SD; one brother, Matthew Sample of St. Paul; 8 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Gladys; sisters, Lillian Lachoalious, Agnes Silsbee, and Charlotte Krueger; and son-in-law, Keith Rose.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the Keith Rose Memorial Building Fund at the El Riad Shrine, Sioux Falls.
