John "Jack" Doherty
Brandon, SD - John "Jack" Patrick Doherty, 92, of Brandon, SD passed away on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at Edencrest at Green Meadows Healthcare in Johnston, IA.
Memorial Service will be at 1:00 pm Saturday, July 16, 2022 at Miller Funeral Home-Downtown, 507 S. Main Ave., Sioux Falls, SD with the family present one hour prior to greet friends. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Sioux Falls, SD. Celebration of life to follow at the VFW Three Rivers Post #4726 in Brandon, SD.
John Patrick Doherty, son of Raymond and Mary (Spain) Doherty, was born May 9, 1930 in Rock Valley, IA. He grew up there graduating from Rock Valley High School in 1947. He graduated from the University of South Dakota in 1953. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Following his honorable discharge he taught in Rolfe, IA for two years.
Jack was united in marriage with Patricia Heim on May 28, 1960 in Sioux Falls, SD. He earned his Master's Degree in 1961 while teaching Social Studies and World History at Edison Middle School in Sioux Falls, SD, retiring in 1990. Jack also worked for Northern States Power Company for 17 years. In 1976 Jack and Pat moved to Brandon, SD and after retirement Jack worked at the Brandon Golf Course. Jack's hobbies included golfing and playing bridge. Jack led a very active social life and made many friends wherever he went. He will be missed by many.
He was a member of Risen Savior Catholic Church in Brandon, SD, The B.O.P. Elks, Brandon V.F.W., American Legion, and a Charter member of the Mighty Corson Arts Players.
Grateful for having shared his life are his son, J. Paul Doherty, Sioux Falls, SD; two granddaughters, Lauren Doherty (Doug Bossen), Des Moines, IA and Paige Conroy (Colton), Waukee, IA; and several nieces, nephews, relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Pat; his parents John and Mary (Spain) Doherty; two sisters, Irene and Frances, and brother Ray.
