Donald "Don" Schroeder
January 22, 1931 - May 24, 2023
Donald L. Schroeder was born January 22, 1931, in Grand Island, NE to Henry and Anna Schroeder. He attended school in Grand Island, graduating in 1949. He then graduated from Grand Island Business College in 1951. In August of that year, he was drafted into the United States Army and served in Japan as a Supply Records Specialist during the Korean War. Upon honorable discharge, Don worked as a station agent for North Central Airlines. After a short time in Chicago, he moved to Sioux Falls and married Lois Enderson on December 27, 1964. They were blessed with two sons, Jay and Mark. He eventually retired from Northwest Airlines in 1987.
Don was a hobby enthusiast and enjoyed collecting stamps, coins, and baseball cards. He imparted his love of baseball to his sons, coaching Jay for multiple years. He created baseball card albums featuring catchers for his special-needs son Mark and they spent many hours together studying them. He shared his passion for coin collecting with his grandchildren, gifting each a full set of United States quarters. Don was also an avid reader, especially interested in books about history, flight, and politics.
Visitation will be Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at 1:00 with the funeral service to follow starting at 2:00 at Miller Funeral Home-Westside Chapel, 6200 W. 41st St in Sioux Falls. Interment will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife of 58 years, Lois Schroeder; sons Jay (Karen) Schroeder and Mark Schroeder, both of Sioux Falls; sister Mary (Bernie) Hostler of Grand Island, NE; and grandchildren Abby and Ethan.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Robert Schroeder.
