Floyd I. Viel
March 10, 1947 - February 7, 2024
Floyd Viel, 76, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota passed away on February 7th, 2024, at Ava’s House surrounded by his family. He was 76.
Funeral Services will be held 1:30pm Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at First Lutheran Church, 327 S. Dakota Avenue. For those not able to attend, the church will be livestreaming the service here: https://www.youtube.com/flcsf The family will be present to greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 Monday evening at Miller Southside Chapel, 7400 S. Minnesota Avenue (81st and Minnesota Ave.) Burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery.
Floyd was born on March 10th, 1947, in Superior, Wisconsin to Walter and Gertrude (Nelson) Viel. The family moved to Sioux Falls in 1950.
Floyd graduated from Washington High School in 1965 and received a wrestling scholarship to attend the University of South Dakota where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree. After college Floyd was drafted to the United States Army, where he served at Fort Dix, New Jersey as a First Lieutenant. Upon finishing his military career in 1970, he came back to Sioux Falls to help his father with Institutions Services Incorporated, a Restaurant Design and Supply Company. Floyd worked to develop the company and made it into the successful business it is today with employees he considers family.
Floyd met the love of his life Karen Knutson and they were united in marriage in 1972 at First Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. Floyd and Karen would go on to have three children: Tiffani, Ryan, and Jacqueline. Floyd was a wonderful and devoted father, husband, and mentor. His family was everything and he supported them throughout their many accomplishments. You could always count on him to be front and center cheering you on no matter what the occasion. Floyd was the most positive individual, he always looked to find good in every situation. When Floyd was not working you could find him spending time golfing, hunting, or boating with his children and his seven amazing granddaughters.
Floyd will be deeply missed by all.
Floyd is survived by his wife Karen; his children Tiffani (Jason) Dockter of Sioux Falls, Ryan (Becky) Viel of Sioux Falls and Jacqueline (Doug) Holubek of Orlando, Florida; his seven granddaughters Alyse (Brock) and Melia Dockter, Madison, Samantha, and Sydney Viel, Adelyn, and Olivia Holubek; and his sister, Roxanna of Hutchinson, MN. Floyd was preceded in death by his parents Gertrude and Walter Viel.
