Paula Chicoine passed away from Alzheimer's in Hospice at Prince of Peace in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on October 15, 2023. A viewing with family present will be held Thursday, October 19th from 5pm to 7pm at the Heritage Funeral Home, 57th & MN, Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral mass will be Friday, October 20 at 10 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 2109 S. 5th Ave., Sioux Falls. Lunch will be served after the funeral. Arrangements by Hofmeister Jones Funeral Home.

Paula Rasmussen Chicoine was born in Des Moines, Iowa on October 18, 1946, to Eugene and Josephine (Becker) Rasmussen. She was the second of twelve children. She always said, chaos reigned. She grew up in Sioux City, Iowa and graduated from Heelan High School in 1964 and attended St. Joseph Mercy Hospital school of x-ray technology. She was one smart cookie. She married John Chicoine in 1967 and moved to Parker, SD where she was the office manager and x-ray technologist for her husband's chiropractic practice. She was the brains of the outfit.

Paula had the voice of an angel and loved singing. She had a wonderful positive, cheerful attitude and always had a smile. She was involved in numerous organizations being involved in the South Dakota Chiropractic Auxiliary, Swiss Choral Society, St. Christina Church activities including having a children's choir. She sang at nursing homes and assisted livings in the area. She was a champion for the underdog and impoverished. She had friends from U.S. Senators to homeless. She was a loving, compassionate and caring wife, mother, and friend.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, John, her children and spouses, Amy (Jim Wilde) Chicoine, Brian (Lindsay) Chicoine, Annie (Ryan) Welsh: grandchildren Jake (Amanda) Anderson, Zack Anderson, Lucy Anderson, Xander, Dax and Croix Chicoine, Brinlee, Emmett and Graham Welsh; brothers Marc (Sherry) Rasmussen, Neil (Vicki) Rasmussen, Tony Rasmussen, Martin (Christy) Rasmussen, Keith (Ruby) Rasmussen; sisters Deanna (Bernie) Lacotta, Lorna (Ron) Ziller; sisters-in-law Pam Rasmussen, Janice Rasmussen and Judy (David) Oberg and numerous nieces and nephews. She was proceeded in death by her parents, brothers Gene Rasmussen, Victor Rasmussen, Phillip Rasmussen, Perry Rasmussen, brother and sister-in-law Gary and Sandy Chicoine.

Memorials may be given to the South Dakota Alzheimer's Association, the Bishop Dudley House, and the Union Gospel Mission.
