Duane “Spanky” Marvin Schellhouse
November 12, 1928 – February 23, 2024
Duane Marvin Schellhouse, affectionately referred to by his co-workers as "Spanky", 85, passed away on Friday, February 23, 2024. Duane was born November 12, 1938 in Luverne, Minnesota to Harry and Olga (Salomonson) Schellhouse. Duane grew up in Hills, Minnesota and graduated from Hills High School in 1956. Following high school, Duane worked in Sioux Falls, South Dakota where he met the love of his life, Janice Joan Johnson. They were united in marriage on June 25, 1960. This union was blessed with five children: Kimberly, Stacey, Cynthia, Todd, and Timothy.
Duane was employed at John Morrell Company in Sioux Falls for 43 years. He was a dedicated employee and well respected by his co-workers. Duane was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed spending weekends camping with his family. He adored his grandchildren and spent many hours attending and supporting their activities. Duane took great pride in his garden and often shared vegetables with friends and family. During retirement, Duane and Janice spent their winters in Arizona where they enjoyed riding bikes, attending local events, and meeting people who became lifelong friends.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife Janice, daughters Kim Dickey, Stacey (Stephen) Beacom, Cindy Jones, sons Todd Schellhouse and Tim Schellhouse, grandchildren Lindsey, Christopher (Megan), Morgan (Hank), Cody, Mason, Caitlin, Max, and Mariah, great-grandchildren River, Nova, and one on the way, and his sister Janyce Richards.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Olga, brothers, Donald (Donna) and Dale, and nephew Jason.
Visitation will be on Friday, March 1, 2024, at 10:00 A.M. at East Side Lutheran Church, 1300 E. 10th Street, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, 57103. The funeral will be at 11:00 A.M. with a luncheon to follow. The family will be present one hour before the service for visitation. The burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Sioux Falls.
We extend our deepest gratitude to all those who have offered their condolences and support during this difficult time. Your love and kindness have provided comfort to our grieving hearts. May Duane’s soul find eternal peace, and his memory be a blessing to us all.
