Richard Howard Halliburton, Sr. was born on April 4, 1949, to Floyd Leland and Betty Joy (Kuhney) Halliburton in Omaha, NE and passed away on March 15, 2024 in Sioux Falls, SD.
Rich married Sherry Taylor in 1969 and they had two children: Jody and Richard, Jr. Rich married Linda Beck in 1993 and welcomed Jennifer Beck as his daughter.
Rich grew up in Omaha and spent many summer months with extended family in southern Missouri. He remained connected to many of his cousins and would often share stories of their childhood adventures and of helping on the farm.
In 1982, Rich moved his family to a small farm in Iowa where, in addition to his full-time job, he raised pigs and ran a feed store. He loved living in a rural area where his children could have many unique opportunities and freedoms.
Rich considered that he had two main careers, first as a plant manager in the folding carton industry, and later as the owner of a home repair and remodeling company. He was well-suited to both careers because of his planning skills and acute attention to detail. He was proud that jobs always came to him because of his skills and reputation. Even today, former customers remain connected to him. While these were his main careers, he had many other experiences, which made him an interesting person to talk to. He could do many different things and was eager to share his knowledge with others.
Even though Rich struggled with health issues during his later years, he had a goal to make at least one person smile every day. Whether it was the barista at a favorite coffee shop or a health care provider, he always succeeded in bringing them a smile. He delighted in surprising others by sharing that he played X-Box and that his current favorite game was Elden Ring.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Linda of Sioux Falls; daughter, Jody (Scott) Vandever of Ankeny, IA; son, Rich Halliburton of Ames, IA; daughter, Jennifer Beck of Sioux Falls; grandchildren, Sydney (Sam) McLeran of Carbondale, IL, Jackson Vandever of Ankeny, IA, and Max Vandever of Ankeny, IA; great grandson, Brooks McLeran; mother, Betty McQueen of San Diego, CA; sisters, Barbara Halliburton of San Diego, CA, Sharon Blacketer of Omaha, NE, and Maude Coulter of Wichita, KS; brother, Daniel (Kris) Halliburton of Omaha, NE; many dear relatives and friends; and faithful cat, Nemo.
Rich was preceded in death by his father, Floyd Leland Halliburton and brother-in-law, Richard Coulter.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sioux Falls Tool Library to honor Rich’s love of building and remodeling.
