Janis Lee Carlson
July 2, 1940 - December 8, 2022
Janis L. Carlson, 82 of Sioux City, IA, formerly of Brandon, SD, died Thursday, December 8, 2022 at Sunrise Nursing Home in Sioux City, IA. Visitation with the family present will be held from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at Brandon Lutheran Church, Brandon, SD. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at Brandon Lutheran Church, Brandon, SD.
Janis was born on July 2, 1940, the daughter of Gordon and LoRayne (Smith) Palm in Spencer, IA. She was raised and educated in Spencer, graduating from Spencer High School in 1958. Janis then attended Drake University receiving her degree in education. Janis met Lyle Carlson in Algona, IA and they were united in marriage on September 22, 1979. They made their home in Clear Lake, IA. They later moved to Lincoln, NE in 1982 and to Brandon, SD in 1990. She continued to substitute teach until her retirement.
Janis enjoyed the art of painting, decorating her home and time at her lake home. She was an active member of Brandon Lutheran Church. Janis cherished time with her family and friends.
Janis is survived by her sons, Mark Carlson of Sioux City, IA, Jeff Carlson of Glacier, WA; four grandchildren, Emily, Evan, Graham and Gavin; brother, Steve (Peggy) Palm of Spencer, IA; nieces, Angie Ryan, Kellie Palm and Hollie Palm; nephew, Brady Palm.
Janis was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Lyle Carlson.
