Artyom "Art" Bagguns
January 25, 1951 - November 25, 2021

Artyom "Art" Bagguns, 70, passed away on Thursday, November 25, 2021 surrounded by his loving family.

Art's memorial service will take place at Heritage Funeral Home on Friday, December 3, 2021 at 4:00 p.m.

Artyom (Art) G, Bagguns was born on January 25, 1951 in Baku, Azerbaijan. While living in the Former Soviet Union, he was stationed in Germany and was a Russian Air Force Aviation Technician from 1970-1972. He married his wife, Lana Gyulmari in March of 1978 and together they had two children, Mark and Renae. In 1979 he graduated in Russia with his Masters in Civil Engineering. The family moved to the United States and settled in Sioux Falls in December of 1991. Art worked for many years and retired as a Draftsman/Estimator from Egger Steel Co.

He loved the Rat Pack era of music, Ella Fitzgerald and The Beatles. He had a huge appetite for James Bond films, Sean Connery being his favorite. Another cinematic pleasure of his was the God Father franchise where he would notably recite lines from Vito Corleone. If Art was ever in your house, you better hide your sweets and chocolates, they would disappear and he seemed to never know where they went...he obviously had a very large sweet tooth.

Art loved grilling traditional Armenian kabobs using his hand-made custom skewers. If you knew Art you knew he loved watching, playing, and refereeing football (AKA Soccer). Even though many would say soccer was his passion, his true passion were his grandchildren (Alexander and Evelyn). He could sit for hours just watching them play or have them sitting on his lap looking at his phone and scrolling through pictures. He lit up whenever they were in the room and was at peace when they were around. Art had a very special bond with his sister Mira, and brother Aleksandr. Even though they lived on the other side of the world they would still facetime 2-3 times a week. Besides being with his family if there was one place in the world he truly loved it would be in the ocean. He loved the salty air, sand and water and the peace and relaxation it brought him.

Grateful for having shared his life is his wife, Lana Bagguns, two children, Mark Bagguns of Atlanta, GA and Renae Bixler (Josh) of Sioux Falls, SD. His sister Mira Bagirova, brother Aleksandr Bagirov (Angelika), 2 grandchildren Alexander and Evelyn Bixler, Brother-in-Law Vladimir Gyulmari (Larisa), Cousin: Boris Sayants, Nephew: Artem Bagirov (Anna), Nieces: Yana Miller (Sergei), Lana Hessel (Tim), Alla Gierhart (Joel). Great nephews: Maxim Smirnov and Alek Gierhart, and Great Nieces: Melania Miller, Emma and Sofie Hessel.
