Mass of Christian Burial will be Tues., Oct. 2, for Leslie J. Miles, 67, Colman, who died on Sept. 29, 2007, near Ft. Pierre while hunting. The Rev. Richard Fox will officiate in St. Peter Catholic Church at Colman, and burial will be in the church cemetery.
Miles was born on Aug. 30, 1940, at Chester to Harold and Evelyn (Birnbaum) Miles. He attended school in Egan and graduated in 1958.
He married Judy Croon on July 7, 1960, at Colman. He was a member of the National Guard and was activated in 1961 during the Berlin Crisis. He began working for Sioux Valley Electric in 1983 and retired in 2005 after 22 years of employment. He also farmed in the Colman area all of his life. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church and the Catholic Order of Foresters.
Survivors include his wife, Judy of Colman; five sons, Ron (Kim), Dan (Jana), Tim (Traci) and Bill (Marie), all of Colman, and Paul (Laurie) of Dell Rapids; three daughters, Deb (Scott) Welch of Sioux Falls, and Amy (Randy) Schmidt and Tina (Mike) Uhing, both of Colman; 29 grandchildren; three great-granddaughters; two brothers, Lowell (JoAnn) of Hartford, and Larry (Mary) of Dell Rapids; a sister, Mary (Jim) LeBrun of Ames, Iowa; and his in-laws, Lyle and Bernice Croon of Colman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister-in-law, Jan Miles; and a grandson.
The Skroch Funeral Chapel of Colman is in charge of arrangements.
