S.F. Man Dies In 3-Story Falls At U. of S.D.
Vermillion, S.D. (AP)--A Sioux Falls man was killed in a construction accident on the University of South Dakota campus Tuesday.
Gerald R. Miles, 55, a plumber of 601 S. Blaine Ave., fell from a third-floor scaffold while working on the I.D. Weeks Library building. Investigating officials said he had been working on drainage pipes under the ceiling.
Mr. Miles was born on March 29, 1911, at Whitesville, Ky. He came to the Huntimer, S.D., area as a young man and lived there until 1942 when he moved to Sioux Falls. He was employed by the Mausabe Construction Co. His marriage to Rita Brown took place May 30, 1936, at Owensboro, Ky.
He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Marlyn Hanten, Sioux Falls; four grandchildren; two brothers, Louis, Owensboro, Ky., and Harold, Colman, and two sisters, Mrs. Rosalie Coomes, Philpot, Ky., and Mrs. Cecelia Hornsbuckle, Palmdale, Ala.
Requiem Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Church of St. Therese in Sioux Falls. The rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the George Boom Funeral Home. Burial will be at St. Peter's Cemetery at Colman.
