(December 10, 1923 - June 30, 2013)

Kenneth C. Shefte, 89, of Dell Rapids passed away on Sunday, June 30, 2013 at his home. His funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 in the Lutheran Church of Dell Rapids Chapel. Interment will be in the Dell Rapids Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. with the family present at 7:00 p.m. at Kahler Funeral Home.

Kenneth Clair Shefte was born on December 10, 1923, the son of Knute and Clara (Quissel) Shefte in Dell Rapids, SD. He grew up near Jasper, MN and attended country school. He attended Egan High School and graduated from Dell Rapids High School in 1940. He farmed with his family. On December 28, 1947, he married Delores Quam. The couple made their home east of Dell Rapids on their farm. Kenneth retired from farming in 1973 and moved into Dell Rapids. They purchased Kroger's Cafe in 1972 and operated the cafe for 4 1/2 years. Kenneth went to work for the Minnehaha County Highway Department for 14 years. He retired in 1988.

He was a past member of the Odd Fellows, a member of the Lutheran Church of Dell Rapids and the Dell Rapids Museum. He taught Sunday school for many years and enjoyed woodworking.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Doris Matz and Bernice Gubbe, and his son-in-law, Frank Ahlers.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 65 years, Delores of Dell Rapids; his sons, Kevin (Laura) Shefte of Heron Lake, MN and Stuart (Kim) Shefte of Dell Rapids; his daughters, Karen (Dean) Skatvold of Baltic, Bonnie Ahlers of Dell Rapids, Gail (Mark) Gannon of Bozeman, MT, Jean (Mike) Bauman of Sioux Falls and Judy (Floyd) Van Dam of Montrose; his 21 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; his brother, Howard Shefte of Raleigh, NC and his sister, Ruth Megard of Lincoln, NE.
