John Patrick Meade
November 1, 1971 – April 13, 2023

John Patrick Meade sadly died unexpectedly at the Grand Itasca Hospital on Thursday, April 13, 2023, at the age of 51. While his family and friends are surprised by his death, they are grateful for the life with him.

John was born November 1, 1971, to Larry Meade and Carol Altman. John was the youngest of their three children which included Lawrence Jr. and James.

In 1975, Larry married Joan (Mayer) Lagge, and John gained a second mother and two more siblings, Steve and Michele. We were a blended family and blended families are a beautiful mix of diverse people who each serve an important role in our lives and are God’s gift to each other.

As a young boy, John was full of energy and life. He loved to be outdoors. Growing up he loved to build forts in the woods in the summertime and snow forts in the wintertime. He enjoyed sledding, snowmobiling, fishing and trap shooting. He also enjoyed re-building cars with his dad.

As an adult, John continued his love of the outdoors. He loved his boat and taking it out on the lake to go fishing. He also enjoyed ice fishing. John recently had told Dad he was hoping to get the boat out soon and go fishing.

John was a professional truck driver for many years. He loved driving during the beet harvest season. He also had worked for a local food bank as a driver for several years. John was hard working and took pride in his work. John also had a love for animals. He had two cats who will miss him very much. John loved those cats with all of his heart. The cats would bring the best out of him.

John was preceded in death by his step-mother Joan, his grandparents and other beloved family members.

John was survived by his father Larry Meade, mother Carol Altman, brothers Lawrence (Amy) Meade Jr., James (Jodi) Meade, Steve (Teresa) Lagge, sister Michele (Tony) Kochel, a very special lady in John’s life Ann Velasco, his two cats, along with several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Like the rest of us, John had challenges in his life. But the best part of a good man’s life is his little, nameless unremembered acts of kindness and love. John did have acts of kindness and love, and God saw them all. John is with God and his “heaven” family now. May his mind, soul and body be at peace.

Private services will be held, with interment at St. Michael Cemetery, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
