August 29, 1939 - January 30, 2023
Gary Mackey, 83, of Sioux Falls, SD passed away on Monday, January 30, 2023 at Avera Heart Hospital of South Dakota.
Funeral Service will be 11:00 am Friday, February 3, at First Congregational Church, 300 S. Minnesota Ave., Sioux Falls, SD with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery.
Visitation with the family present to greet friends will be from 4:00 – 6:00 pm Thursday, February 2, at Miller Funeral Home Downtown, 507 S. Main Ave., Sioux Falls, SD.
Gary Lee Mackey, son of Lloyd and Jeanara (Farley) Mackey, was born August 29, 1939 in Greeley, CO. He grew up on the family farm near Greeley and Graduated from LaSalle High School. He continued to work on the family farm.
It was in Greeley, CO he met a beautiful nurse by the name of Yvonne Koerner from South Dakota who worked in the Greeley area. Their courtship flourished.
Gary was united in marriage with Yvonne Koerner on December 28, 1963. They moved to Sioux Falls, SD where they were blessed with one daughter, Kari. He invested into a farm store in Sioux Center, IA and worked at Campbell’s Supply in Sioux Falls, SD for several years.
He started his own lawn sprinkler business called Lawns by Gary. He was still very active in the business and was beginning to plan for spring sprinkler system startups.
He was a longtime member of First Congregational Church, and the Elks Club. Family was very important to Gary and loved to be at all his grandchildren’s events. He loved fishing and his trips with family and friends to Northern Minnesota. He enjoyed photography, puzzles, and playing games with family.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife of 59 years, Yvonne Mackey, Sioux Falls, SD; daughter, Kari (John) Lord, Mitchell, SD; two grandchildren, Nick and Maddi Lord, Mitchell, SD; a brother, Max Mackey, Greeley, CO; sister-in-law, Jo Mackey, Aubrey, TX; a brother-in-law, Dennis (JoEllen) Koerner, Freeman, SD; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Grant “Bill” Mackey; and a nephew, Kurt Mackey.
