Arden Sustad
October 3, 1961 - January 15, 2022

Arden Sustad fought the ALS battle for 1 ½ years and died with his wife, Carrie, and dog, Cali, at his side on January 15, 2022, at Dougherty Hospice House at the age of 60. A memorial visitation with family present to greet friends will be from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Friday, January 21, 2022, at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory (3408 E 10th St., Sioux Falls, SD 57103). A prayer service and time of sharing will take place at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial services will be 9:30 a.m., Saturday, January 22, 2022 at King of Glory Church (1001 E 17th St, Sioux Falls, SD 57104). In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to King of Glory Church or the ALS Association specifically the MN/ND/SD Chapter.

Arden Wendell Sustad, son of Glen and Ella (Skretvedt) Sustad, was born October 3, 1961 in Crookston, Minnesota. He attended Stephen High School and Moorhead State University. He married Carrie Grindberg on August 27, 1983, in Moorhead, Minnesota. They had two daughters, Danielle and Rachel.

Arden grew up in Stephen, Minnesota and graduated as valedictorian of his class. He lived in Moorhead, Minnesota while attending Moorhead State University. After college graduation, Arden & Carrie were married and moved to Des Moines, Iowa in June of 1983. Arden’s career began in the banking industry as a Sales Territory Representative for Burroughs Corporation. In January of 1988, Arden and Carrie moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota where Arden soon became Sales Manager for Precision Computer Systems. From April 2003-July 2012, Arden was a senior vice president and Western Area Director at Fiserv. In July of 2012 Arden and three partners started Journey Technology Solutions. He retired on December 31, 2021.

He was a charter member and first president at King of Glory Church in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

He was involved in financial counseling with The Genesis Program (Community Outreach) and Financial Peace University. He taught High School Sunday school, for over 10 years at Hope Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He completed 15 marathons and “too many to count” half marathons. He was an avid golfer, church basketball league participant, and church softball league champion. Every Saturday for many years, he helped deliver furniture for the Furniture Mission. A yearly family vacation was a priority to Arden. He developed a strong passion for smoking meats on his Traeger grill and arranging shrimp boils for family and friends. Arden was a devoted American History scholar.

He is survived by his wife, Carrie Sustad; daughter, Danielle and Dawson Muska; three grandsons, Jonah (6), Ezra (4), and Gideon (2); daughter, Rachel and Brent Neihart; brothers, Keith and Jeanne Sustad and Dean and Gayle Sustad; sister, Merilee and Mark Potucek; parents-in-law, Jim and Shirley Grindberg; and sisters-in-law, Deb Anderson, Karen Sustad, and Barb Sustad.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Ella Sustad; and brothers, Gary Sustad and Lyle Sustad.
