Troy Hanisch
September 22, 1964 - August 30, 2021
Troy Hanisch, 56, of Hartford, SD passed away unexpectedly of an apparent heart attack on Monday, August 30, 2021.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M on Saturday, September 4th at Miller Funeral Home – Southside Chapel. The funeral address is 7400 S. Minnesota Ave, Sioux Falls, SD. One hour prior to the funeral, family and friends are encouraged to be at the funeral home to celebrate Troy’s life.
Troy Robert Hanisch was born on September 22, 1964, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to his parents, Gary Hanisch and Betty Jean (Larson) Hanisch. Troy attended Lincoln High School and he was a quintessential 70’s boy. Troy loved fantasy novels, and among his favorite were “The Hobbit” by JRR. Tolkien. Troy was a star on his Bantam baseball team (Locke Electric) and could recite the Star Wars movies line by line. He played a mean electric guitar loved to listen to Rock ‘N Roll at the Pomp Room. Hunting, Fishing, and the outdoors were Troy’s passion from an early age when he would hunt with his cousins and uncles. Even as he grew older, he loved to hunt with his kids and grandkids on lakes and fields around South Dakota.
Troy embodied the American values of hard work and dedication. In the early years, he could be found flipping burgers at Wendy’s and working at John Morrell’s. This same work ethic and attention to details led him into a rewarding career in commercial transportation. Troy worked for Waste Management, Gage Brothers, Concrete Materials, and even a second job at Yellow Cab so he could better support the family that he loved. In the last years of his life, Troy drove for Ruan Transportation. His commitment to others was exemplified even in death, as he managed to maneuver his double trailer off the road out of harm's way.
More than anything, Troy loved his family. He had a huge heart, and his love for life was second to none. Troy enjoyed spending time camping and riding on the Harley with his soulmate and true love, Lori, and loved every moment that they spent together. Spending time with his children and grandchildren was also important. From teaching them how to drive to getting stuck in the slough on their first hunting trip, he would give them nuggets of tough love and wisdom that they never knew they needed, but now will miss. Troy was a gentle giant and could fill the room with his loud, robust laugh. You could not leave his presence without your heart feeling full.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Lori Hanisch of Sioux Falls, Sd; Their children, Matt Kenyon (Brandy Underberg), Sioux Falls, SD, Mitch Kenyon, Madison SD, Carrie Thies (Shane Hulscher), North Augusta, SC, Sara Thies, Sioux Falls, SD, Michael Thies, St. Peters, Mo and Kaila Hanisch, Rapid City, SD; Eight grandchildren, Aubrey Kenyon, Owen Thies, Olivia Hulscher, Kyler Kenyon, Kohen Kenyon, Henry Thies and Charlee Hulscher; two siblings, Pamela Simpson, Sioux Falls, SD and Scott Hanisch, Hartford, SD Troy was preceded in death by his parents, Gary and Betty Hanisch, his brother, Christopher Hanisch, and a grandson, Alexander Chriction.
