May 31, 1972 - September 10, 2018
Erik Lunstra, 46, of Sioux Falls, SD died Monday, September 10, 2018 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. Visitation begins at 5:00 PM Friday, September 14 at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory, Sioux Falls, where the family will greet friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and a Prayer Service starts at 6:30 PM.
Erik Ray Lunstra, son of Julia Ann (Fleming) Lunstra and and Douglas Eugene Lunstra, was born May 31, 1972, in Sioux Falls, S.D. He died September 10, 2018 as the result of catastrophic brain trauma sustained in a hit and run vehicle accident.
Erik was a graduate of Lincoln High School. He was employed at Raven in their electronics assembly for a short period of time before he attended STI. He graduated with an associate’s degree in Civil Engineering. He went on to work at various companies in construction before he decided to pursue a career as an electrician. He continued in the construction industry until the time of his death.
Erik enjoyed motocross and quad racing. One of his most favorite memories was a visit to Baja and riding his quad in the dunes. Erik was a very creative and innovative individual. His latest creative mode was finding just the right rock and painting the image he had envisioned for it on that rock. If you are fortunate to find one of his painted rocks, you will know it is his because he signed every rock with a cursive elunstra signature or an EL-JK before strategically hiding it for someone to find. He developed a love for the game of Scrabble. He was always ready to challenge anyone to a game; he always won. He enjoyed mechanical work whether it was restoring an old farm tractor or doing maintenance work on your everyday vehicles. He cared for everyone around him and was always willing to help others, and he continued helping others by donating his organs.
Grateful for sharing his life, are his parents, his sister Christina Lunstra-Person, nieces Alexandra Lunstra and Arianna Person. In addition, he is survived by many cousins, aunts and uncles.
Memorials, in lieu of flowers, are encouraged to the St. Francis House, Sioux Falls, SD.
