Robert "Bob" Reilly
August 30, 1939 - April 16, 2022
Robert "Bob" Reilly, 82, of Sioux Falls, SD passed away Saturday, April 16, 2022 at his home with family members at his side.
Funeral service will be 10:30 am Friday, April 22, at Miller Funeral Home-Downtown, 507 S. Main Ave., Sioux Falls, SD with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery, Sioux Falls, SD.
A Rosary will be said at 4:00 pm Thursday, April 21 with the family present to greet family and friends from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
Robert Francis Reilly, son of Ambrose and Agnes (Clercx) Reilly, was born August 30, 1939 in Larchwood, IA. He grew up there and graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic High School. He enlisted in the South Dakota Air National Guard and did his basic training in San Antonio, TX. After six years of service, he was honorably discharged.
Bob was blessed with three children from a previous marriage, Brenda, Jeff and Jerry. He was united in marriage with Sharon Louise Bertsch in Sioux Falls, SD on August 15, 1967. They were blessed with two children, Lisa and Robert. They have made their home in Sioux Falls, SD their entire married life.
He spent most of his career managing various Amoco Stations for Gary Parks. In 1996, he owned and operated Bob Reilly’s Amoco. After his retirement, he worked for the City of Sioux Falls as a traffic counter.
Bob was a longtime member of the Cathedral of St. Joseph, and throughout his life his faith was very important to him. He was a member of The Center for Active Generations, Northwest Pine Hills Saddle Club, and a longtime member of AA where Bob was proud to have chosen the life of sobriety for 49 years. Bob loved animals and really enjoyed trail riding, camping with horse friends, fishing, and attending barrel races.
He loved gardening, and spending time outdoors. He was a devoted family man and enjoyed going to their various activities. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his grandchildren watching their ball games, bicycle riding, playing in the sand and mud, and coloring with them.
Although he was not an avid traveler, he had enjoyed bus trips and road trips with family. He enjoyed TV, country music, and enjoyed his time with visitors over a cup of coffee and afternoon snack. Bob liked keeping informed of current events and the news, and was an amateur weatherman that loved keeping an eye on the weather for everyone.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife of 54 years, Sharon, Sioux Falls, SD; five children, Brenda (Robert) Jarding, Jeff Reilly, Jerry Reilly, Lisa Haensel all of Sioux Falls, SD and Robert Reilly, Ft. Myers, FL; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren, Amy Jarding; Sarah (Alex) Schroeder and their children, Ellie, Mason, Charli, Natalie; Rebecca (Hunter) Obrigewitch and their children, Mark and Anne; Morgan (Noah) Engelbrecht; Makenzie (Brandon Redenius) Haensel; Brooke Haensel; three siblings, John (Shirley) Reilly, Sioux Falls, SD, Margaret (Larry) Christopherson, Sioux Falls, SD, Mary (Dan) Lamfers, Larchwood, IA; brother and sister-in-laws, Betty Fideler, Sioux Falls, SD, Willie (Audrey) Bertsch, Sioux Falls, SD, Jim (Dan Mahood) Bertsch, Richfield, MN, Janice Bertsch, Menno, SD, Ron (Linda) Bertsch, Sioux Falls, SD, LuAnn (Paul Buysse) Bertsch, Alexandria, MN; several nieces and nephews; his many friends who assisted in his spiritual and physical care, Deacon Bill Radio, Kristi Gullickson, Mary Flanagan, and the staff at Avera Home Health and Avera At Home Hospice.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ambrose and Agnes Reilly; father and mother-in-law, Bill and Hazel Bertsch; daughter-in-law, Susan Reilly; and brother-in-law, Mike Fideler.
