Cara Beth Luke
November 4, 1968 - September 18, 2021

Cara Luke, otherwise known as, “The Granny Nanny,” passed away peacefully from pancreatic cancer on Saturday, September 18, 2021, at Sanford’s Foundation Hospice Cottage in Sioux Falls, South Dakota with her daughter by her side. She was a mere 53 years old.

Cara Beth Luke was born on November 4, 1968 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Carl and Marla (Miller) Edman. She attended Sioux Falls public schools and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1986. Following high school, Cara attended some college, but began working for Sioux Vocational Services (LifeScape) where she remained for quite some years.

On September 6, 1997, Cara was united in marriage with Terry Luke in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. For a brief four years, Terry and Cara lived in Colman, South Dakota but moved to Humboldt in 1998 where Cara lived the remainder of her life. Terry and Cara Luke were blessed with two children, Kiley and Jaden Luke.

As Cara’s children grew, she enjoyed being the number one fan in the grandstands. Jaden, who was an avid football player, and Kiley, who played basketball and softball kept Cara enthralled with different adventures nearly every month of their childhood years. Cara was blessed with 5 grandchildren along the way, in which she loved spending time with them and watching them grow.

Cara enjoyed days outside in the warm air of the Midwest during the summer months. She spent her “retirement” time with her golden retriever, Chloe, and her cat, Gracie. You could commonly find Cara in her vehicle hunting down storms and watching them from deserted gravel roads. Cara was a very talented cook and was able to implement new recipes and interests to the multiple local bars she served for. Cara always had a crude sense of humor and wanted everyone to live the nonchalant lifestyle.

Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Kiley (Michael) Achen and Jaden Luke both of Sioux Falls; five grandchildren, Grayson VanRoekel (10), Paisley VanRoekel (9), Mac Eberle (5), Jet Eberle (2), and Luka Achen (2). She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Marla Edman.

Memorials made be directed to Miller Funeral Home, 507 S. Main Ave., Sioux Falls, SD.

Visitation with family present will begin at 10:00 am, with a time of sharing memories of Cara and her life beginning at 11:30 am on Friday, September 24, 2021 at Miller Funeral Home – Southside Chapel, 7400 South Minnesota Avenue, Sioux Falls. At noon, we will begin the procession to Woodlawn Cemetery, 2001 South Cliff Avenue, for Cara’s burial. Family and friends are invited to Tinner’s Public House, 449 West 69th Street, following burial for a “celebratory lunch,” of Cara’s life.
