Jo Ann Britzman
February 1, 1933 - July 26, 2022
JoAnn Britzman, 89, passed away peacefully under hospice care surrounded by her loved ones on Tuesday, July 26, 2022.
Joann Kathryn Britzman was born on February 1, 1933 in Vienna, SD to Eldon and Lila Holzwarth. Growing up with her two brothers, Harlyn and Loren Dean, Jo had many wonderful stories about living on the farm.
She attended General Beadle College and Black Hills State and became a teacher. She met her husband Darwin Britzman in Watertown, SD. They were married on August 2, 1953. She taught school before having her three children, Shari, Steve and Mark. She was an amazing wife, mother and an extraordinary grandmother. Dar and Jo have seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren (5 of whom are named for her). Grandma Jo always had unique crafts to create, dinners to eat and games to play. Jo and Dar never missed their grandchildren’s concerts, sporting events, dance recitals or school programs.
As her children and grandchildren moved away from Sioux Falls, she kept in touch by writing thoughtful letters. Her letter writing was one of her greatest gifts, cherished by all.
Jo was an avid golfer and bridge player. She could light up a room with her kind, loving smile and was the very best at striking up thoughtful, sincere conversations with anyone and everyone. Jo and Dar traveled the world and took their kids and grandkids on unforgettable vacations. Her seemingly endless energy and constant generosity are something that her family will dearly miss. Jo and Dar were members of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. She passed away on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, with her loving husband, Dar at her side. She is survived by her husband Dar, their 3 children Shari (Jeff) Platek, Steve (Lyndy) Britzman, and Mark (Rhonda) Britzman; 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
On Monday, August 1, 2022, a burial will be held at 9 a.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery in Sioux Falls. The burial will be followed by a 10 a.m. funeral service at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. Lunch will follow at 11 a.m. at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. Instead of flowers, please consider a gift to a charity of your choice and honor Grandma Jo by sending someone special a handwritten letter.
