Joann Ulmer, 82 of Sioux Falls, SD died Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at Select Specialty Hospital, Sioux Falls, SD. Visitation with the family present will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Friday, August 12, 2022 at George Boom Funeral Home and On-Site Crematory with a time of sharing at 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 13, 2022 at George Boom Funeral Home and On-Site Crematory. Interment will be held at Hills of Rest Cemetery, Sioux Falls, SD.
Joann was born on June 8, 1940 the daughter of Arthur and Lillian (Johnson) Rasmussen in Sioux Falls, SD. She was raised on the family farm in rural Trent, SD. Joann graduated from Trent High School in 1958. She was united in marriage to Ewald Ulmer on June 18, 1960 in Sioux Falls. They moved to Hartford, CT where they were blessed with two children, Jeff and Janet. They returned to Sioux Falls in 1967 and were blessed with two more children, Karl and Jane. They eventually settled in Canton, SD where they raised their children.
Joann is known for her love, kindness and gracious spirit. She loved helping anyone she met. Joann worked at the Inn of Westport for twenty years as the marketing director.
Joann is survived by her husband of 62 years, Ewald Ulmer; children, Jeff (Jill) Ulmer, Janet (Brad) Golay, Karl (Gretchen) Ulmer and Jane (Joe) Flynn; nine grandchildren, Justin Ulmer, Jaicee (Jared) Twedt, Cadi Golay, Jordan (Kathryn) Ulmer, Joshua Ulmer, Meghan Ulmer, Matthew Ulmer, Jalena Flynn and Joseph Flynn; six great grandchildren, William Riddle, Wesley Golay, Mazie Golay, Jovi Twedt, Lennon Twedt and Timothy Ulmer; siblings, Rachel Jasper, Kathryn (Ken) Bruns, Audrey Rasmussen, Ruth Rasmussen, Arthur Rasmussen, Judy (Al) Scott and Cindy (Kenny) Allen; numerous nieces and nephews.
Joann was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Merle Rasmussen, Richard Rasmussen, Virginia Snodgrass, Doris Rasmussen; brothers-in-law, Doug Snodgrass and Dale Jasper; sister-in-law, Marilyn Rasmussen.
