Flora Mae Voegeli Zweep
Birth 16 Apr 1931
Death 8 Oct 2016 (aged 85)

Flora Mae (Voegeli) Zweep, age 85, of Brandon SD, joined our Heavenly Father Saturday October 8th, 2016 at Bethany Home in Brandon surrounded by loved ones.

Flora Mae Voegeli was born on April 16, 1931 in Sioux City, Iowa to parents Erwin & Myrtle (Christensen) Voegeli of Valley Springs. She started grade school in rural Beresford, finishing in Brandon, and graduating from Brandon High School. She then attended summer school at General Beadle in Madison where she received her teaching certificate. She taught school at Fairview in rural Garretson, South Dakota and also worked as an aid for the Brandon school.

On June 1, 1950 Flora married Donald Zweep of Garretson where they farmed and raised their four children.

Flora was very active in her church and held many positions, including Sunday School teacher, Superintendent, and Choir Director. She also was a charter member of the Modern Farmettes Extension Homemakers Club organized in 1957. Her duties included leadership in the county, district and state of this organization (1984-85 County Chairwoman, 1987-89 District Vice President). She also has been a member of the County Extension Homemakers Chorus and an active member of the Board of Directors for the "University Week For Women". She was also a member of the Red Hat Society.

Flora helped organize the girls 4-H club "Yohoma" and continued leadership for 24 years. She held county and state positions in the 4-H leaders association during these years. Her family was one of Minnehaha County's 3 generation 4-H families.

Flora had a lifelong love of flowers. In 1978 Flora and Donald opened "Flora's Flower Shop" at their farm home. Flora designed flower arrangements with fresh, dried, or silk flowers for any occasion - weddings, funerals, or just because. In 1984, Flora and Don started traveling to Texas. There, Flora started several new hobbies, including round dancing, square dancing, oil painting, and golfing. Flora was a quick study, and quickly became so good at oil painting that she began to teach it to others.

In 2004, Flora and Don moved to Bethany where Flora continued her involvement in many memberships. She was a very social person, and loved catching up with friends.

Flora and Don loved to travel together across the United States. Their adventures even took them as far as Europe. Whether camping or on a cruise, they enjoyed all of their trips.

Flora deeply enjoyed every minute spent with her 12 Grandchildren and 19 Great Grandchildren, sister and brother who will cherish her memory.

Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am Wednesday, October 12, 2016, at Zion Lutheran Church, Garretson. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 pm Tuesday, at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Garretson.
