Jeffrey LeRoy Okerlund was born on December 5, 1954, in Sisseton, SD, to LeRoy Okerlund and Marilyn (Wilson) Okerlund. He grew up loving the outdoors. As a young boy he was an avid trapper on the Big Sioux River. He learned to hunt waterfowl in the hills west of Sisseton and pheasants on the prairies of South Dakota. He also loved to fish the glacial lakes and the Missouri River.

He graduated from Sioux Falls Washington High School in 1973 and Augustana College in 1977. Founder of Orion Food Systems, he was a well-respected leader and supported the Children’s Home Society with the annual Orion Challenge. He was a gentle giant of a man with a positive and encouraging heart, loved by family, friends and co-workers. Jeff was always kind and caring, a tender servant’s heart, positive and encouraging and dedicated and devoted to his bride and his M and M girls.

Jeff’s passion to bring the Gospel to his community is reflected in his 25 years with Beacon Broadcasting, providing encouragement through God’s Word and music. In 2019 Jeff helped make possible the production of “Heaven To Heaven”. His most recent endeavor to reach the world with the Good News came to fruition this year through World Hope’s Christian broadcast in Africa, which produced its first broadcast last week.

Jeff also served several years as a member of the Board of Directors of Radio America International.

Jeff passed to eternity on November 6 after a valiant and courageous six-year battle with cancer. Jeff fought the good fight as great warrior for Christ.

“Let us not become weary of doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
