AWFUL ACCIDENT
Jake Hogan, Living Two Miles Southwest of Egan, Killed by a Self-Binder
Jake Hogan who lives about two miles southwest of Egan, near the railroad junction, was killed Monday afternoon by a selfbinder. He was cutting grain in company with Art Smith. A storm came up, his horses were frightened , he jumped down to hold them and in some way got in front of the sickle. The keel knocked him down and the machine was pulled over him by the runaway horses. He was almost immediately killed. The body was badly cut. Mr. Smith brought him at once to Egan.
The accident is extremely sad. Jake was a very industrious farmer and was doing quite well. Some years ago he lived in Clare township where he had land. He leaves a wife and eight children, the youngest child born July 6th. As the storm was coming up Mr. Smith suggested to Mr. Hogan that they quit but with the intention of saving as much of his crop as possible before the storm came he continued cutting till the horses got scared and he met with this awful accident.
The funeral took place from the home at 9:30 Wednesday morning, with services at the Flandreau Prairie church at 12 p.m., Rev. C.J. Moen officiating.
