Richard David Kinney
April 15, 1938 - December 13, 2020
Richard Kinney, 82 of Sioux Falls, SD, died Sunday, December 13, 2020 at Good Samaritan Society Village in Sioux Falls.
Richard David Kinney was born April 15, 1938 to Roy and Marie (Zimmerman) Kinney in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He was raised in Sioux Falls and graduated from St. Joseph’s Cathedral High School in 1957. It was there that he met his future wife, Ruth. Richard worked as an installer at Western Electric Telecommunications for 31 years before he retired.
On January 28, 1961, Richard was united in marriage to Ruth Hawn at Saint Joseph’s Cathedral in Sioux Falls, SD. The couple were loving parents to their four children, Anne, Jane, Rich and Rob.
Richard was a previous member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sioux Falls. He enjoyed all sports, hunting, traveling, movies, board games and card games, but he especially loved spending time with his family. Despite his poor joke-telling ability, he had a great sense of humor and easily endeared himself to others.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Ruth Kinney of Sioux Falls; children, Anne (Scott) Morstad of Sioux Falls, Jane (Mark) Brumels of Sioux Falls, Richard Kinney of Bainbridge Island, WA and Robert Kinney of Sioux Falls; 8 grandchildren, Richard Boer, Jonah Patterson, Kathryn Brumels, David Brumels, John Brumels, Erin Kinney, Ryan Kinney and Hadley Kinney; and sister, Kathleen (Richard) Schmidt of Sioux Falls.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Marie Kinney.
